Choosing a name for a dog is serious business!
You’re not just picking something that sounds cute shouted across a park (although that is definitely worth testing… trust me, some names feel very different when you’re calling them in public!).
You’re choosing a name that matches their personality, their little quirks, and sometimes the chaos they bring into your life.
And where better to find inspiration than Disney?
Disney has given us brave dogs, loyal dogs, mischievous dogs… and even dogs who are probably better at running a household than most humans.
So here are my top 10 Disney inspired dog names.
1. Nana – Peter Pan 🐾
Starting with an absolute classic.
Nana from Peter Pan might just be one of the most underrated Disney dogs ever.
A beautiful Newfoundland, Nana isn’t just the Darling family dog — she is literally the children’s nursemaid. She tidies, organises, gives medicine and generally keeps everyone under control.
Honestly? The Darling parents got themselves an absolute bargain.
A babysitter, cleaner and emotional support animal all rolled into one giant fluffy package.
Nana is the perfect name for a gentle, loving dog who thinks looking after their humans is their full-time job.
2. Lady – Lady and the Tramp 🎀
Elegant. Sweet. A little bit spoiled.
Lady is the perfect Disney princess of the dog world.
The beautiful Cocker Spaniel from Lady and the Tramp is loyal, loving and full of charm.
It’s a gorgeous name for a dog with a soft personality… or one who simply believes every blanket, sofa and cushion in the house belongs exclusively to them.
(Not naming any names…)
3. Dug – Up 🎾
“I have just met you, and I love you.”
Possibly the most dog-like sentence ever written.
Dug from Up captures everything wonderful about dogs — pure happiness, loyalty and excitement about absolutely everything.
Food? Amazing.
Walk? Amazing.
Random leaf blowing past? Best day ever.
Dug is a brilliant name for a happy, slightly goofy dog who wakes up every morning ready for an adventure.
4. Lilo – Lilo & Stitch 🌺
Okay, technically Lilo is not a dog.
But Disney names don’t have rules, right?
Lilo means generous one, and it’s a beautiful name for a loyal little companion.
Plus, considering Stitch pretends to be a dog in the film, I think this one absolutely counts.
Perfect for a dog with a big personality and maybe a tiny little mischievous streak.
5. Pongo – 101 Dalmatians 🖤🤍
The ultimate Disney dad.
Pongo is brave, clever and completely devoted to his family.
He literally travels across the country to save his puppies — if that isn’t dedication, what is?
A perfect name for a loyal dog who likes to keep an eye on everyone.
Bonus points if they dramatically stare out of windows watching the world go by.
6. Perdita – 101 Dalmatians 🤍🖤
We can’t mention Pongo without Perdita.
Beautiful, graceful and protective, Perdita is a lovely choice for a gentle female dog.
She’s calm, caring and proves that quiet strength is sometimes the most powerful kind.
Plus… “Perdy” is an adorable nickname.
7. Copper – The Fox and the Hound 🦊🐶
Copper is such a lovely name.
The young hound from The Fox and the Hound is playful, sweet and loyal.
It’s especially perfect for a dog who makes friends with everyone they meet.
Although hopefully with slightly less emotional trauma than the film gave every child who watched it.
(Disney really did enjoy making us cry, didn’t they?)
8. Bruno – Cinderella 🏰
Before Bruno became the name everyone wasn’t talking about (yes, we’re looking at you Encanto) there was another Disney Bruno.
Cinderella’s loyal dog.
He protects Cinderella, dreams of chasing Lucifer the cat and is always on her side.
A lovely classic Disney name for a faithful companion.
9. Max – The Little Mermaid 🌊
Prince Eric’s sheepdog Max is one of Disney’s best animal sidekicks.
Friendly, enthusiastic and an excellent judge of character (he liked Ariel immediately — good boy points awarded).
Max is a brilliant name for a happy, adventurous dog who loves everyone.
10. Pluto – Mickey Mouse ⭐
You can’t have a Disney dog list without Pluto.
One of the most famous dogs in the world, Pluto has been making people smile for generations.
He’s playful, expressive, loyal and always getting himself into funny situations.
Basically… every dog ever.
Honourable Mention: Lilibet ✨
Okay… not Disney.
But some dogs just sound like they walked straight out of a fairytale!
A slightly royal name, a little bit magical, and perfect for a dog who knows exactly how loved she is.
(And yes, some dogs absolutely know they are the main character.)
(Also - Lilibet is the name of our family pup - and Chief Sock Officer!)
Disney has always understood something special about dogs.
They’re not just pets.
They’re family members, adventure partners, comfort blankets, chaos creators and our biggest fans.
Whether your dog is a Nana, a Dug, a Lady or something completely unique, the most magical thing about their name is the little character behind it.
Because every dog deserves their own happily ever after. 🐾✨
