I Thought I Had the Full Set: The Disney Showcase Holiday Princess Collection

There are few feelings more satisfying for a collector than discovering that you have finally completed a set.

And there are few reversals of fortune quite as swift as discovering—approximately five minutes later - that you have not.

That is exactly what happened to me with the Disney Showcase Holiday Princess collection. I knew I owned Rapunzel with Pascal, Snow White with Dopey and Ariel with Flounder. Then I spotted Cinderella with Jaq and Gus and wondered: How many of these festive princesses are there?

The answer was five, and the fifth was Belle with Chip.

After a little investigating and a sudden recollection involving Belle and a very small teacup, came an extremely exciting answer:

I owned all five!

Or so I thought.

When I gathered everybody together for the triumphant group photograph, I discovered that Rapunzel was present - but Pascal was not. My complete five-piece collection was, in fact, missing one extremely small, extremely green and suddenly extremely important chameleon.

This was my absolute Disney tragedy of the day.

A Disney Christmas collection with a difference

The Holiday Princess series forms part of the Disney Showcase Collection by Enesco. It should not be confused with Disney Traditions by Jim Shore, although the two collections are often mixed together in second-hand listings.

Disney Showcase is known for taking familiar characters and presenting them through elaborate, fashion-led designs. In this festive series, each princess exchanges her usual dress for luxurious winter attire inspired by her original colours and story. Faux fur, sparkling snowflakes, sculpted fabric, jewels and seasonal details give the collection a wonderfully theatrical Christmas feel.

More importantly, the princesses did not arrive alone. Each is accompanied by at least one much-loved friend - and the companions are arguably responsible for half the charm.

The complete series comprises:

Belle with Chip - 4053349

Belle began the Holiday Princess series in 2016, dressed in an opulent burgundy winter gown with rose details and a shimmering shawl. It is an unmistakably Belle design: elegant, warm and romantic, with just enough drama for a Christmas at an enchanted castle.

Her companion is Chip, supplied as a separate hanging ornament rather than incorporated into the main figurine. That distinction is especially important for collectors. Because Chip is small and detachable, he can easily become separated from Belle over the years. A second-hand Belle may look complete at first glance while her tiny companion is missing.

If you are buying this piece, ask specifically whether Chip is included - and request a photograph. Never underestimate the disappearing abilities of a small ceramic-looking teacup.

Snow White with Dopey - 4058287

Snow White is dressed in a sumptuous red and deep-blue winter gown, with a full skirt and fur-trimmed cape creating a rich storybook appearance. Her familiar colours remain intact, but the seasonal styling makes her look ready for a snowy woodland rather than a cottage spring clean.

Dopey stands beside her carrying gifts, bringing sweetness and humour to the piece. Their pairing feels particularly natural because it captures the affectionate friendship at the heart of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

The contrast between Snow White's graceful pose and Dopey's slightly chaotic Christmas enthusiasm gives this figurine enormous personality. He is, quite clearly, doing his best.

Ariel with Flounder - 6000818

Designing winter clothing for a mermaid presents a small practical problem, but Disney Showcase wisely chose magic over logistics.

Ariel appears in a striking green and red festive gown, with sweeping shapes, shell-inspired detailing and textures that echo the sea. Flounder accompanies her as a separate small figure, allowing the pair to be positioned together for display.

It is one of the most imaginative transformations in the series. Ariel still looks entirely herself, despite being dressed for a climate that presumably offers very few opportunities for swimming. The jewel-toned colours also make her particularly striking within the complete group.

As with all detachable companions, check that Flounder is present when considering a pre-owned example.

Cinderella with Jaq and Gus - 6002181

Cinderella was the figurine that prompted my investigation - and consequently revealed that I had somehow completed the whole collection behind my own back!

She wears an icy blue gown decorated with delicate snowflakes, a fur-trimmed neckline and an extravagant sweeping stole. The design feels especially cohesive: Cinderella's signature blue lends itself beautifully to a winter interpretation, while the frosted details give her the appearance of a princess arriving at a Christmas ball.

Jaq and Gus form the companion element. They bring warmth and playfulness to what might otherwise be the most formally elegant piece in the series. Their presence also makes the design unmistakably Cinderella rather than simply “beautiful woman who has dressed very sensibly for December.”

Cinderella was officially described as the fourth Holiday Princess release.

Rapunzel with Pascal -  6006275

Rapunzel completed the series as its fifth release in 2020. Her purple winter ensemble is trimmed in white and filled with the ornate detail associated with the Disney Showcase range.

Naturally, Rapunzel is not simply standing serenely in the snow. She is holding a snowball and looks fully prepared to use it - that cheeky look on her face says EVERYTHING! Pascal should accompany her as a separate figure, wrapped for the occasion and looking either supportive or mildly concerned about where the snowball might land.

It is a joyful final piece: elegant enough to sit beside the earlier princesses, but playful enough to feel true to Rapunzel. She does have a noticeably different energy from the statelier earlier releases, partly because she arrived several years after Belle launched the collection and partly because she appears ready to begin a snowball fight at any moment. Even so, Enesco's original description explicitly identifies her as the fifth Holiday Princess.

Unfortunately, my Rapunzel is currently demonstrating exactly why collectors must check for separate companion pieces. Somewhere between purchasing her and assembling the full collection, Pascal has disappeared. As all Tangled fans know, chameleons are very good at blending into their surroundings. This is not nearly as charming when the surrounding area contains boxes of collectables!

Why the full collection works so beautifully

Although the five figurines were released over several years, they look remarkably cohesive when displayed together. Each stands at approximately the same scale, and the jewel-toned gowns- burgundy, red, blue, green and purple - create a rich Christmas palette without becoming repetitive.  I actually started my display with accompanying decor - but it simply didn't need it!  These princesses and their little mates (excluding Pascal in my case - don't worry, I'll get over it!) diplay beautifully without any additional Christma glitz.

The companions are what give the series its heart. Chip, Dopey, Flounder, Jaq, Gus and Pascal stop the princesses from feeling like fashion studies alone. They reconnect every elaborate costume to the friendships and stories collectors know and love.

There is also something rather lovely about the fact that the collection remained focused. With only five releases, it feels achievable to complete, although finding every figurine with every separate companion may require patience.

A collector's checklist for the Holiday Disney Princess Collection

If you are hoping to assemble the complete Holiday Princess collection, check the following:

• Belle: confirm that the separate Chip hanging ornament is included.

• Snow White: inspect Dopey's finer details and any delicate gift elements.

• Ariel: confirm that the separate Flounder figure is present.

• Cinderella: check Jaq and Gus carefully, along with the edges of the sweeping stole.

• Rapunzel: confirm that the separate Pascal figure is included and inspect the snowball and extended hand.

• All five: look closely at fingers, hair, dress edges, ornaments and other projecting details for chips or repairs.

• Boxes: make sure the product number on the box matches the figurine, particularly where sellers have confused Disney Showcase with Disney Traditions.

Original packaging is always helpful with detailed resin figurines, both for collector appeal and for safer storage or transport. However, an unboxed piece can still be a wonderful find when it is complete and in excellent condition.

The accidental completion

Collectors often remember the piece they are searching for far more clearly than the pieces already safely tucked away. Collections grow gradually: one lovely find, one irresistible bargain and one “I had better buy it now because I may never see it again.” Before long, the bigger picture can become surprisingly difficult to see.

In my case, Cinderella's appearance made me wonder whether I was close to completing the Holiday Princess series. I was not merely close.

For one glorious moment, I was finished.

Belle and Chip had simply slipped my mind, which seems rather rude after Belle went to the trouble of launching the series in the first place. Then Pascal slipped out of the collection altogether, which was considerably ruder!

The five princesses have now been gathered together, and I can properly appreciate the collection as Enesco intended: five beloved Disney Princesses dressed for Christmas, each designed with a faithful friend and each bringing her own colours, character and story to the display.

Technically, I have every main figurine in the series. Emotionally, however, there is now a small Pascal-shaped hole in the collection.

Sometimes the best collecting surprise is discovering that you do not need another figurine at all.

Sometimes that feeling lasts approximately seven minutes, after which you realise you need to find one tiny chameleon instead!
