Happy Birthday to you, Jim Shore!
Today, 30th June, we celebrate the birthday of a man whose work has brought joy, nostalgia and a little bit of magic into homes all over the world — the wonderfully talented Jim Shore.
For collectors like me, Jim's figurines are so much more than ornaments sitting on a shelf. They are tiny works of art, each one telling a story, capturing a moment and somehow managing to bottle up the emotions we felt when we first fell in love with our favourite Disney characters.
One of the things I admire most about Jim Shore's work is his incredible attention to detail. The intricate patterns inspired by traditional American folk art have become instantly recognisable to collectors around the world. Whether it's the delicate rosemaling, the quilt-inspired designs or the expressive faces of the characters themselves, every piece feels as though it has been created with genuine love and care.
Of course, as Disney collectors, we know his talent extends far beyond beautiful patterns. Somehow Jim manages to capture personalities in resin. Belle's quiet intelligence, Stitch's mischievous grin, Tigger's boundless energy and the elegance of Cinderella all shine through in his creations. They don't simply look like the characters — they feel like them.
Many of us can remember our very first Jim Shore figurine. Perhaps it was a gift from someone special, a holiday purchase that became a treasured memory, or the piece that started a collection that quickly took over an entire room! Whatever the story, there is often a wonderful sense of nostalgia attached to these figurines that makes them even more special.
As collectors, we spend plenty of time discussing retirement dates, rare pieces and market values, but days like today are a lovely reminder of the artist behind the collection. The man whose imagination, creativity and craftsmanship have provided us with countless hours of enjoyment and excitement as we hunt for the next addition to our shelves.
I was fortunate enough to purchase my very first signed Jim Shore figurine earlier this year — a beautiful Belle piece, fittingly featuring my favourite Disney Princess. Holding a piece personally signed by the artist himself made me appreciate even more the person behind the brand and the incredible impact his work has had on collectors around the world.

So today, wherever you are in your collecting journey, perhaps take a moment to appreciate the figurines that make you smile each time you walk past them. The pieces that remind you of your favourite films, your childhood memories or the people who gifted them to you.
Happy Birthday, Jim Shore!
Thank you for the stories you have told through your art, for the magic you have brought to collectors across the world and for helping us keep a little piece of Disney wonder in our homes.
Here's to many more years of beautiful creations, impossible collecting decisions and shelves that are always somehow just a little too full.
With gratitude from one very happy collector.
