I Didn't Even Know These Existed! Discovering Disney's Hidden Frozen Troll Collection

Collectors Guides frozen

It's not often I get genuinely excited when I discover a Disney figurine I've never seen before...

Actually...

That's a complete lie.

I get REALLY excited every single time.

One of the things I love most about collecting Disney figurines is that, just when I think I've got a pretty good handle on what's out there, something completely unexpected appears and reminds me that Disney collecting is a rabbit hole with no end.

These two little characters did exactly that.

I'd genuinely never seen them before.

And I instantly fell in love!

Meet Grand Pabbie and Bulda

These delightful little figurines are part of the Disney Traditions by Jim Shore collection and feature two of Frozen's most overlooked characters:

  • Wise Shaman (Grand Pabbie) – Product No. 4051989
  • Mother Troll (Bulda) – Product No. 4051999

Both are beautifully sculpted in Jim Shore's signature folk-art style, complete with his distinctive carved wood effect, muted earthy colours and intricate rosemaling-inspired details.

Although Elsa, Anna and Olaf often steal the spotlight, these two characters are incredibly important to Frozen's story.

Grand Pabbie is the wise elder who helps Anna as a child and later warns the sisters about Elsa's powers, while Bulda is the wonderfully over-protective troll who adopts Kristoff and Sven and leads the unforgettable "Fixer Upper" sequence.

I Thought They Were Disney Park Exclusives...

When I first discovered these, I was convinced they must have been Disney Park Exclusives.

After all, I'd never seen them before.

So I did what every curious collector does...

I started digging.

Interestingly, I couldn't find any official evidence that either figure was released as a Disney Parks Exclusive.

Instead, everything I found points towards them being part of Enesco's standard Disney Traditions range, sold through authorised Disney Traditions retailers around the world.

That said, they may well have been stocked in Disney Parks alongside other Disney Traditions pieces, which is perhaps why many collectors (myself included!) assume they're park exclusives.

It's an easy mistake to make.

So Why Are The Frozen Trolls So Hard to Find?

If they weren't exclusive, why do they seem so rare?

I think there are several reasons.

Supporting characters don't always sell

When Frozen became a worldwide phenomenon, retailers understandably focused on the stars.

Everyone wanted:

  • Elsa
  • Anna
  • Olaf
  • Sven

Far fewer people walked into a gift shop asking for Grand Pabbie or Bulda.

That almost certainly meant retailers ordered much smaller quantities.

Ironically, that's exactly what makes them more desirable years later.

They're part of a forgotten mini collection

One of the most fascinating things I discovered is that these weren't standalone releases.

Enesco actually created a lovely little Frozen sub-collection including:

  • Kindhearted Kristoff (4051986)
  • Furry Friend Sven (4051987)
  • Snow Place Like Home (Big Olaf) (4051988)
  • Wise Shaman – Grand Pabbie (4051989)
  • Young Kristoff (4051997)
  • Young Sven (4051998)
  • Mother Troll – Bulda (4051999)

It's a wonderful little collection that seems to have slipped under many collectors' radar.

They quietly disappeared

Unlike many of the more recognisable Frozen characters, these figures didn't remain in production for long and have since been retired.

Today they're far less commonly seen on the secondary market than Elsa, Anna or Olaf, making them an exciting find whenever they do appear.

The Details That Made Me Smile

The more I looked at these figurines, the more I appreciated Jim Shore's artistry.

Grand Pabbie's enormous textured beard and hair create fantastic depth, while his gentle expression captures the wisdom and kindness of the character perfectly.

Bulda, on the other hand, is simply full of personality.

Her cheerful smile, flowers tucked into her hair and tiny pink necklace instantly bring the character to life.

Neither figure is flashy.

Neither is dramatic.

But both are absolutely packed with charm - exactly like their on screen characters!

Sometimes it's these smaller, more characterful pieces that end up becoming favourites.

Hidden Gems

Would I describe these as rare?

I'd probably choose the word uncommon.

They're certainly much harder to find than the main Frozen characters, but they do still appear occasionally if you're patient.

That's one of my favourite things about collecting.

The biggest thrill isn't always finding the most expensive figurine.

Sometimes it's discovering something that makes you stop and think:

"Hang on... I didn't even know Disney made one of those!"

Why I Love Discovering Pieces Like This

People often ask whether I've seen every Disney Traditions figurine.

The answer is a very easy...

"No!"

Disney Traditions has been running for over twenty years, with hundreds upon hundreds of releases.

There are retired pieces.

Limited-distribution pieces.

Characters you forgot existed.

Characters you never even realised had been made into figurines.

And every now and then, one pops up that completely surprises me.

That's exactly what happened with Grand Pabbie and Bulda.

They reminded me that no matter how much you think you know about Disney collecting...

There's always another hidden treasure waiting to be discovered.

And honestly?

I hope there always will be.

A little confession...

Researching these figures only made me love them even more.

I started out thinking I'd found a couple of obscure park exclusives.

Instead, I discovered something much more interesting: two overlooked members of a forgotten Frozen mini collection that many collectors have never even realised exists.

And for me, that's what collecting is all about.

The hunt, the research, and those wonderful moments when you discover something completely unexpected!
